Trushape Investment Casting UK
CNC Machining from Trushape UK
We don't just machine casting and forgings, but offer a full CNC machining service for all metal grades.
Whether we are machining castings or working from solid billet, Trushape UK offers a practical CNC manufacturing solution. CNC milling and turning are accurate, computer-controlled processes used to produce metal and plastic components for prototypes and repeat production.
CNC A machine controls the cutting tool, speed, depth and movement, allowing parts to be made with high accuracy, repeatability and consistent quality
CNC milling uses a rotating cutter to remove material from a fixed workpiece. The multi-directional tool create features, It is commonly used for simple shapes and precision engineering parts
CNC turning rotates the workpiece while a cutting tool shapes it. Turning is mainly used for cylindrical components. It can produce diameters, shoulders, tapers, grooves, drilled holes and threads
The main difference is movement: in milling the cutting tool rotates; in turning the workpiece rotates. Many modern CNC machines can combine both methods in one setup, reducing handling time and improving accuracy.
These processes are valued across multiple industries because we deliver tight tolerances, good surface finishes and reliable results.
Machining vs Casting
Machining from solid billet can be best when accuracy, finish and fast turnaround are important. It needs little tooling, so it is well suited to low-volume work and parts with critical dimensions. The disadvantages are higher material waste, longer machining times on large parts and higher cost for large production runs.
Casting is often better for complex shapes, heavy sections and higher quantities. It can reduce material waste and lower the cost per part once patterns or moulds are made. However, casting usually has longer lead times and tooling costs. Cast parts may still need CNC machining afterwards to finish faces, holes, threads and tight tolerances.
In practice, both methods are often combined: a casting gives the near-net shape, then CNC machining finishes the critical features accurately.
