Surge Protection Devices
The IMO Surge Protection Device (SPD) range provides reliable protection for electrical installations and sensitive equipment against damaging transient overvoltages. Electrical surges can be caused by lightning, switching electrical equipment, damaged wiring, power-line faults and other supply disturbances, potentially damaging equipment, wiring and stored data. SPDs work by limiting excessive voltage and safely diverting it away from the installation.
IMO’s range offers Type 2 and Type 3 surge protection, providing solutions for both distribution boards and additional protection close to sensitive equipment. Type 2 devices help prevent overvoltages spreading through low-voltage electrical installations, while Type 3 protection can provide an additional level of protection for sensitive loads.
Designed to simplify product selection, the range includes compact 1P+N, 2-pole and 4-pole configurations, with solutions suitable for 20kA and 40kA maximum discharge surge currents. Universal models support TN, TT and IT earthing systems, allowing the range to cover a wide variety of electrical installations.
Maintenance is straightforward thanks to pluggable, replaceable modules. Modules can be interchanged across compatible 2 and 4-pole devices, while coding pins and guides help ensure correct installation. A simple green/red status indicator provides an immediate visual indication of whether the module is healthy or requires replacement.
For installations where panel space is limited, the SPDS Series offers a compact single-module solution while retaining Type 2/3 protection. The range features IP20 protection, 35mm DIN rail mounting and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +80°C, with the SPDS models conforming to IEC 61643-11:2011 and EN 61643-11:2012.
